Collar Bone, 24 x 24," Originally this handsome whippet was going to be painted without the collar but once the drawing was complete, his neck looked so bare I was compelled me to adorn it 15th century style. The renaissance influenced pattern is enhanced by small bone shaped closures and bones dangle from the bottom of the collar. This portrait was used as a donation vehicle for the Espanola Valley Animal Shelter as in bid on either the painting or a pet portrait of the bidder's own pet.
King of Staffordshire, 21 x 18". Hard to resist painting a white Staffordshire Terrier with heterochromatic eyes. As this painting was a donation for the Santa Fe Animal Shelter fund raiser in 2013, he became a king adorned with various human accouterments, a crown replacing a party hat, a sash and a necklace featuring a bright magenta faceted tourmaline. A frosted glass ball and a red peony rest in the foreground.
Bone Tie, 20 x 20". Picked up by animal control and put up for adoption sometime in July 1998, this Dalmatian was about 13 lbs. underweight and was used to being on his own, foraging for food and looking for an exit. Soon thereafter was an entrance into my world and my home and once we bonded, it was a match made in heaven. In the spirit of giving back, Nike was again my muse for this portrait that was donated to the Espanola Animal Shelter fund raiser for the silent auction in late 2012.
